Great Dane Puppies are here!  Barbi Wagner of Motrosa Farm just announced the birth of seven beautiful, Champion Line, Great Dane puppies!  They were born on April 3rd, 2008!  Four females and three males!   If you're looking for an incredible dog-show quality and family pet, these pups will exceed expectations!  For contact information please visit Motrosa Farm's website (the address is on our Links Page).  Reserve your puppy now before they are all taken!

In February and March, I took part in two Seminars on Breeding Mares and Mare pregnancy and foaling.  The seminars were taught by Mark Burke and presented by Mark and Deb Burke at Amethyst Acres.  Both seminars were absolutely fantastic!  Please visit our LINKS page for Amethyst Acres' web address and more information!   This photo of the February seminar class was taken by Deb Burke.

Please check out the art page!  I've been sculpting all winter and will be adding sculptures as they are done.  This is a close up of  a sculpture that will be shown at the 2008 Egyptian Event.

In January we had land cleared for new pasture areas and for our barn! The building will begin soon!

Trees being removed from our future barn site!  The horses thought the machines were, TREE EATING MONSTERS-and who could blame them?  After a short while they figured out they were safe and spent their days munching hay and watching the land clearing show.

2007 flew by!

Plans are underway for our new barn, which will measure 60' x 36' and house 12' x 12' stalls, a 12' x 24' foaling stall, grooming/bathing area, shoot and phantom area.  Land clearing is scheduled for January, 2008. Noraah, is safely in foal!  The foal is by our young stallion, Sammy!   Noraah is happy and healthy, so we are thrilled.  Our two female llamas, Sweet Pea and Hershie are expecting crias in late spring of 2008- lots of anticipation!  So we are busy planning for next year's activities and expected arrivals.  Please check back often!

 Rest in peace, dear Conny

In Memory of Bay Conquest

March 1st, 1982 - July 21st, 2007

It is with deepest regret that we mourn the passing of a wonderful Arabian horse with a big heart and a beautiful soul.  Conny was Susan Flanagan's dearest boy.  They shared over 20 years together.  I'll always remember Conny as my gelding Romey's true friend-wise guys riding the trails together like they knew where we were going!  Conny is missed every day...

Johnny Johnston Photographs Thee Samurai!

On June 23rd, Johnny Johnston visited Amethyst Acres and photographed Sammy!  Johnny is a Master Equine Photographer who has photographed some of the most famous Arabian horses in the world.  I have followed Johnny's work for decades and have always wanted to meet him-so spending the entire day with him was absolutely amazing!  Having Sammy photographed by Johnny was an honor!  Mark Burke show clipped Sammy and presented him as if they were at the Egyptian Event!  I am always impressed with Mark's extreme horsemanship talents...  He got Sam posing beautifully for the camera!  Deb Burke assisted Johnny by wearing a dark blanket---Johnny called her his BEAR---and as Deb would sneak around under the blanket, the horses would focus on her-with beautiful expressions.  Deb also handled the tease mares- used to get the stallions' attention during the photo shoot.  I assisted Johnny by carrying his camera .  As I watched him capture unbelievable shots of Sammy and the other horses photographed,  Johnny explained his technique-the day was like a private photography course!   Deb & Mark were gracious hosts, had lunch for us and made sure all the horses were presented in their best form!  I owe Johnny, Deb and Mark a HUGE thank you for an incredible day!  As soon as Sammy's photographs are sent to me they will be published on our website!

What an incredible spring!  All of our babies are born now-healthy, happy and beautiful!  Please stay tuned for updates!

It's A Dutch Friesian Colt!

Shortly after midnight on June 7th, 2007, our Beautiful Dutch Friesian, Angela M, gave birth to an absolutely exquisite colt!  She had a text book delivery and her colt was raring to go and stood up quickly!  I was sleeping on an air mattress in Angela's stall (that's how gentle she is...). She pushed my shoulder and woke me up!  I told her to go eat some hay and fell back asleep.  She pushed my shoulder again-this time I immediately noticed steam rising from her body!  She was in labor and wanted to make sure I was awake!  Rob had gone inside to take a nap-so my cell phone call warned him that we were close to foaling.  When Angela's water broke (like the oceans burst!), I called Rob again and told him to hurry outside!  Rob videoed the birth while I assisted Angela.  Once the foal's head and legs were out, I cut the sac away and Angela pushed once more to deliver a healthy colt!  He was active immediately!  I dried him off and did some imprinting exercises with him.  When he was safely dry, I gave Angela a carrot!  She was happy that we were with her and accepted us with her foal immediately!  She's a wonderful mare!  The foal is beautiful-he has great presence already and whinnied when I spoke to him.  We stayed with Angela and her colt until he had nursed a few times and were in the house by 5am.  We named him Wander's Nepteunis, after his sire Wander, his maternal grandsire Teunis and Neptune for our farm's ocean name.  We are thrilled!  Please check back for photos and visit our Friesian page!

"Hey mom--quit it!"  Angela caring for her new son.  She's such a wonderful momma!  Tunie is about 15 minutes old.

"Look at me- I'm up!  Now what?"  From his first time standing it was only a matter of minutes before Tunie was looking for his first meal!

Out with Mom for the first time.  Tunie is about 16 hours old in photo!

Our Dutch Friesian Angela M is due to foal in June!  She's getting close-her milk is starting to come in-so please check back for updates!  Angela will raise her foal in a private half acre pasture.  Rob is completing a 12'x24' shelter for Angela and foal.  The structure will be enclosed for foaling.

PUPPIES!  My Dear Friends Barbi & Bruce Wagner's Great Danes are proud parents to a beautiful litter of fawn puppies!  They are going fast, so if you are interested please contact me, or Barbi at Motrosa Farms!  Barbi's website is on our links page.  Please visit and see photos of the Great Danes!

IT'S A BOY CRIA!

Our llovely llady llama Molly-Moo gave birth on May 16th 2007 to a striking male cria!  He's adorable and so wooly!  He was born determined and stood up almost immediately!  By the time Rob got home from work (I called him home as soon as I knew Molly was going to give birth), the cria was up and looking for his first meal!  I dried him off, took pictures, dressed him in a newborn llama sweater and he was up--he had things to do!  Rob got home and our dear friend Patty Richards stopped by to see our baby boy.  We had a 10oz bottle of cow colosturm warmed up for the baby-and MAN, he gulped that bottle down and was looking for more!  He was super healthy and weighed in at 25 pounds!  Our yearling llama Rocky, who was now a pro at investigating births since our first '07 cria's birth, made a serious and through investigation of this newborn-and was actively involved from delivery to helping me dry the cria off-he was a big help...  Molly was great and is a wonderful mom!  We named this cria, EquiSea's Captain Jack Sparrow, after the pirate in, THE PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN movies!  Check back for photos often!

What a handsome boy!  He's going to have long, crimpy wool!  About three hours old in photo!

IT'S A GIRL CRIA!

Our llovely llady llama Nichole gave birth on May 5th, 2007-to an absolutely beautiful female cria!  This little girl is really something!  She was humming (which is the way llamas talk) as she was being born, she tried standing up immediately and was up trying to nurse within 20 minutes of birth!  Rob took photos as I dried her off and gave her 10oz of cow colostrum as her first meal.  Our dear friend Jim Perry stopped by and helped us weigh the cria-and she weighed over 26 pounds!  In under two hours Nichole and her new cria joined the herd.  Rocky was especially happy to meet his new friend-I'm not sure he understood how she got here...  Our dog Boomer made immediate friends with the cria too!  We are thrilled!  We named this beautiful girl EquiSea's Galadriel, after the Queen Elf in J.R.R. Tolkien's book,  THE LORD OF THE RINGS.  Please check back for new photos often!

We had a spring snow storm on April 7th!  It hardly snows here, so we were amazed-but what made the weather even more shocking was that days before it was in the mid-80's!

Snowy pasture view.

Thee Samurai, our Straight Egyptian, Al Khamsa, Black Stallion is currently standing at Amethyst Acres.  Deb & Mark Burke own and manage this state of the art Equine Reproductive facility and are wonderful!  Their website address is on our Links Page.  If you would like to breed your special mare to Sammy, please contact us!  Stay tuned for a new webpage called, The Brides Of Samurai, which will showcase the beautiful mares bred to Sammy!

Crias And A Foal Due Soon!  As the winter gave way to spring, we started noticing our pregnant llamas Nicole and Molly growing quite round!  They are doing well and getting close to their due dates in May!  We can't wait and promise cria photos so please check back!   Angela M, our beautiful Dutch Friesian mare is starting to show too!  She is due between June 20th and July 5th.

Loo-bear & Murrr chilling by the Christmas tree.

What a year 2006 has been!  Earlier this month, Rob, Loop and I marched in the Williamsburg Christmas Parade.  Since the theme was, "I saw three ships,"  Loop, our herdsire llama and I dressed as Pirates!  Rob escorted us as our photographer.  We marched with friends and their alpacas-who were also dressed as pirates and had a great time.  Loop is fantastic in parades-so gentle, friendly and he lets me dress him up!  What a cool llama!

Loop, Karen and Patty--Williamsburg Christmas Parade Pirates!

Loop sported a bandanna, dreadlocks, a Jolly Roger's flag and a parrot!  He was one stylin' llama pirate

The farm is coming together!  Our horses and llamas are happily residing in their new pastures now-quite a site as you come up the driveway!  Rob has worked non-stop building new pasture areas and shelters for our gang!  Looks fantastic!  Our herd is finally complete!

In April we purchased our first Dutch Friesian mare, Angela M,.  Angela was imported from Germany in November 2005.  When we purchased her, she was weeks away from foaling, so she remained at Pleasant View Farms until after she foaled.  On June 12th, we watched Angela give birth--on a web-cam!  She gave birth to an absolutely beautiful filly, Trienke Zeemeermin (aka Zima).  Our Dutch Friesian girls finally arrived home, after Angela had been bred to the Dutch Friesian Stallion, Wander 352. Thank you Ellen & Rick Simonetti for our Beautiful Friesians!

On June 12th, we watched Angela give birth to her beautiful filly, Zima!  Although the birth took place in the western part of Virginia, we watched the birth, as it happened, on a web-cam!

Angela and Trienke Zeemeermin, aka Zima!  Here Zima is three weeks old.

After a long search, we purchased two Black, Straight Egyptian, Al Khamsa broodmares!  Thee Bint Bahim (aka Bindi) arrived at EquiSea Farms in September.  She settled in quickly and helped us welcome our second mare, BKL Bint Noraah (aka Noraah).  Both mares are absolutely beautiful and gentle, with incredible bloodlines.  They have become great friends and share a pasture.  We expect exceptional foals from these two mares and our stallion Thee Samurai!  Special thanks to Carl & Shelley Star, for our Noraah and Letta Smith, Lee & Shirley Siems and Vivien & Jerry Willis, for our Bindi!

Spring was a busy time!  We sent Molly moo, our sweet llama, to The Fuzzy Farm, where she was bred to the award winning llama, "Sarmiento's Steal Your Heart".  Gayle and Rich Dumas took excellent care of Molly during her stay at their farm.  It was like she was sent to an exclusive spa!  She was gone for a month, came back pregnant and settled in quickly.  We recently bred our llama Nicole to our herdsire Loop.  Both llady llamas are due in May 2007!

Sweet Molly Moo is being followed by her new friends at The Fuzzy Farm.

June 10th, Rob discovered a newborn cria in the llama pasture!  Sweet Pea had given birth early that morning!  The newborn cria was premature.  With help from our dear friends, Patty Richards and Jim Perry, we dried the cria off, clamped his umbilical cord and weighed him.  Normally, cria birth-weigh is 20+ pounds--this cria weighed 14.2 pounds.  We knew he was in serious condition-especially since he couldn't stand to nurse.  We called our Vets' office and warmed up cow colostrum we store in our freezer.  This day began a two week, round the clock fight for life.  Rob and I bottle-fed the cria for two whole weeks, until he was able to nurse on his own.  Sweet Pea was such a good mom--this was her first cria, but she trusted us and accepted our constant intrusions.  We owe a debt of gratitude to our Vets, Dr. Gary Doxtater and Dr. Rob Lee, who came out several times.  Also to Dr. Karen Baum, who consulted with us and our Vets via phone from a meeting out west.  Patty and Jim kept us fed too-they came by with food several times, or we wouldn't have eaten.  Their camelid expertise and moral support gave us more strength than they can know...  We named the cria, Merit's Rocky Road-Merit, after his National Champion sire and Rocky Road, because his first two weeks were nothing less than rocky!  Our efforts have been well rewarded-Rocky is now a HUGE, healthy, beautiful boy!  You'd never know by looking at him, that his first weeks were touch and go!  Rocky has incredible wool and confirmation-so he will become our junior herdsire llama!  We plan on showing him too!  His looks are matched by his outgoing personality.  He's one incredible llama!

Rocky was premature and couldn't nurse on his own...

Here's Rocky six months later!
He's healthy, happy, beautiful and HUGE!  And look at that wool!

Rocky is about one month old in the photo.

January brought heartbreaking news.  Our dear friend Barbi, lost her beloved stallion SAF Lover Boy.  Sometimes things happen that are so sad and difficult to understand...but we go on with a broken heart...Yet, through the pain, treasured memories bring a smile...

In Memory of SAF Lover Boy, 1986-2006

We send our deepest condolences to Barbi & Bruce Wagner of Motrosa Farm. Lover Boy was Barbi's special boy. His beauty and talent was enhanced by his gentle spirit. Lover's foals carry these traits. His only son, Lover's Pride, will continue Lover's legacy. We are honored to have known such a wonderful stallion and to have his daughter, Lovers Al Shama. Lover Boy will be remembered fondly and always...

We wish you all a wonderful New Year!  Stay tuned in 2006 as our herd of horses and llamas grows and the farm takes shape!

Just after Christmas, our two new llady llamas arrived!  Whist Me Away, or Sweet Pea and Bauernheim's Hershie Kiss, or Hershie made friends with our other gals and settled in nicely.  Sweet Pea is pregnant and due in June and we can't wait!  Thanks to Jim & Jennifer White for these two beautiful girls!

Our new llady llama Sweet Pea!  Fab wool and the sweetest llama too!  She's pregnant--so stay tuned...

Here's our new llady llama Hershie!!  She is gentle and beautiful--once again, Fab wool!

In early December, our Herd Sire Llama, MFL Windigo's Special K, better known as "Loop," marched in the 2005 Williamsburg Virginia Christmas Parade! Loop was in fine form-modeling his costume proudly and marching with purpose. After the parade, Loop greeted admirers, posed for photo ops and made many young friends. He was really something! We had a great time!
